India’s unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in 2017/18 fiscal year, the statistics ministry said on Friday.The same figure was leaked to a newspaper in January, which said it was the highest since 1972/73. The rural rate 5.3% while the urban was at 7.8%. The survey had become a political issue after the acting chairman and another member of the body that reviewed the job data resigned saying there was delay in its release.However, Chief Statistical Officer clarified that the numbers are not comparable to previous years.
