Representatives from almost 200 nations gathered in Dubai for the COP28 climate summit, where they reached an agreement to phase out fossil fuels and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Over $85 billion was pledged in support of climate action. The World Bank implemented reforms, freeing up $4 billion annually. 2023 was declared the hottest year on record, prompting calls for a complete phase-out of fossil fuels. Insufficient commitments from oil companies were criticized. 134 countries signed a declaration to address the climate impacts of the food industry.
