NEW DELHI: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday countered Rahul Gandhi’s ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’ jibe, saying the government doesn’t see any reason to react to Congress leader’s ‘rent a cause’ antics because his was a ‘soojh-boojh ki sarkar’. At a discussion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha, Jaitley questioned Gandhi’s commitment to politics, saying there is difference between going on a national duty and going on a jaunt. Slamming the Opposition leader, Jaitley asked, “PM Modi’s trip was in public but what about your leader who left the country without providing any information.” “You suddenly disappear for months…then you come back and talk about issues to make up for your absence,” Jaitley said. Gandhi returned home on April 16 from his 56-day unexplained sabbatical, which had raised questions over his leadership of the party at a time when Congress has been battered in elections repeatedly. On Tuesday, Gandhi had taken a swipe at PM Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, asking whether farmers were not contributing to the plan by providing food to the entire country. “Prime Minister (Modi) speaks of ‘Make in India’. But no one does ‘Make in India’ more than a farmer of Punjab. He has established this country. Is the work done by poor not ‘Make in India’? Is it something else? Rahul asked in an interaction with reporters while referring to Modi’s pet theme of wooing foreign investors to manufacture in India. Vowing to raise voice for farmers from very platform, Rahul said government should take into account their serious concerns and not just extend monetary assistance. The Congress leader has struck an aggressive note taking on the government over the land bill with his Kisan rally in Delhi and later his attacks against the NDA dispensation in the Lok Sabha on the issue.
