TUTICORIN: A 100 KW solar power plant has been installed at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust here. The power generated from this plant, installed at the roof of the administration building, will be directly fed to Port Low Tension( LT) grid in the complex. The expected generation from the plant will be 1,70,455 units per annum. S Anantha Chandra Bose, Port Trust Chairman, inaugurated the plant yesterday, a release said. It said the port planned to establish 400 KW direct grid connect solar power plant in the Port estate. This would lead to reduction of 119 Metric tones of carbon emission per year, it said. As a Green Port initiative, the port has submitted the Green Energy commitment to Shipping Ministry and thereby it proposed to set up solar Power of 500 KW capacity by the year 2016, it said.
