New Delhi: The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki Monday made the global launch of mini sports utility vehicle S-Presso in the national capital with prices starting Rs 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The S-Presso is powered by a BS VI-compliant 1-litre petrol engine. It is the eighth vehicle in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio to come equipped with the enhanced emission standards. Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Kenichi Ayukawa said, “S-Presso is our understanding of what the entry-level customer wants..,We believe that the current turbulent times are a short-term challenge. We continue to have confidence in India’s long-term growth story…We are also confident that this car S-Presso will help to change the sentiment of the market. Starting with this festive season it will re-energise the industry on growth path.” Maruti Suzuki’s sales declined 27% till August FY20 amid a broader slowdown in the industry. The company has been taking a series of steps past few weeks to revive consumer sentiments. This includes special tie-ups with banks to ease financing for dealers and consumers, price cuts on vehicles new products launches among others. The S-Presso has been designed, developed and validated using Suzuki’s global development processes. Maruti Suzuki engineers worked on the car along with their Japanese counterparts. The S-Presso will be sold through the company’s ARENA retail network.
