NEW DELHI: Shipment of 4G LTE devices into India leapt 80% in 2017 and accounted for about half of the total devices shipped, which touched 148.3 million units, according to a report by market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR).Chinese brands accounted for half of the overall shipment of 4G LTE devices, while Indian and global brands accounted for 24% each, the report, released on Wednesday, said. Of the data cards shipped, 99% were 4G LTE-enabled.According to the report, 4G LTE-enabled mobile handset shipments accounted for 47% of the total mobile handsets shipped. 4G LTE tablets accounted for 39% of the total tablet shipments in the country.“In 2017, Chinese brands grew aggressively with 143% sequential growth, thereby, contributing one in every two 4G LTE device shipped in India,” said Prabhu Ram, head–Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR.“The Chinese success story in India can be traced to their keen and clear understanding of the needs of the discerning Indian customers, and offering them, with the latest specs at affordable price points.”
