The Centre approved a Rs 1,658-crore recovery plan for Joshimath in Uttarakhand to make the hill town an excellent example of ecological sustainability. The plan will be implemented in three years, following best practices and sustainability initiatives. The high-level committee, chaired by union home minister Amit Shah, approved the plan which includes Rs 1,080 crore of central assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The state budget will cover the cost of land acquisition and resettlement, amounting to Rs 452 crore.
