Leopard numbers rise 8% in four years

India’s leopard population has risen by 1,022 (nearly 8%) in four years, from 12,852 in 2018 to 13,874 in 2022, the latest assessment report said. Actual numbers could be higher as the count covered around 70% of leopard habitat. Their numbers fell in Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Odisha & Telangana.
